CALI's first workshop "Interviewing Skills, Salary Negotiation & Mock Interview Session"

On April 11th CALI held its first workshop "Interviewing Skills, Salary Negotiation & Mock Interview Session" at Silkroad Innovation Hub, Palo Alto. The workshop combined both theoretical and practical aspects, featuring insightful and experienced speakers. This workshop was intentionally capped at 30 participants to ensure each attendee receives individual attention.


  1. THEORY

Presentations and Q&A session with featuring speakers:

●      “The Art of Writing Resume” by Adil DoshayEV, Senior Global Supply Manager, Tesla


Adil explained the X-Y-Z formula for resume building, emphasizing the importance of clarity, and concision: ‘Keep resume simple and boring”. He also shared some statistics about LinkedIn profiles and provided useful tips on how to use Chat GPT to tailor a resume for a specific job. ●      “Technical Interview prep & tips” by Madina Mustafina, Software Engineer, Microsoft


Madina provided comprehensive interview preparation tips for coding, system design, and behavioral interview. She talked about the STAR and CARL methods for behavioral interviews, emphasized the importance of working with recruiter, and asking for feedback regardless of the job outcome, and shared some useful resources for interview preparation such as interview.school, Blind, and System Design Interview Alex Xu (vol. 1 and vol. 2). ●      “Salary Negotiation” by Ekaterina (Katya) Pechenikhina, HR at Verkada


Katya discussed how to handle the uncomfortable question of salary negotiation and provided insights on how to negotiate. Key takeaway: ‘If you don't ask, you won't get’.



  1. PRACTICE

Mock Interview Session: practical value and personalized feedback from our experienced mentors 

For mock interviews, participants were asked to bring printed resumes and prepare for behavioral questions. The session was led by experienced mentors who work in different companies such as Microsoft, Google, Stanford University, Tesla, Mercari and Roblox. Participants received personalized feedback and actionable advice on their resumes and interview strategies.
